The Settimana Bianca for the Italians has got more expensive as per Il Corriere/Altroconsumo

Sky-high prices for ski weeks- here are the costs to go for the Settimana Bianca in nine ski resorts, as per an article published at Il Corriere della Sera with AltroConsumo.

Italians tend to go skiing on their Settimana Bianca in two different weeks. First week is for the New Year’s Eve week and the second week is during Carnival.

How much does it cost to ski on New Year’s Eve

For the New Year’s Eve ski week (from December 28, 2024, to January 4, 2025), in the nine ski resorts monitored – including highly sought-after destinations such as Bormio, Madonna di Campiglio, Courmayeur and Cortina – the average budget required for a couple’s stay is 3,125 euros. This is thinking of the costs of travel and the ski pass (for 5 days), the overnight stay in a three-star hotel or B&B was considered (the calculation is based on the average between the two solutions). Note that the total does not include meals and other extra costs such as ski equipment rental.

The most affordable destinations

The most affordable locations are Tarvisio (1,724 euros) and Pila (2,218 euros), while the most expensive – those that exceed 4,000 euros – are Livigno (4,233 euros) and Cortina d’Ampezzo (4,405 euros). Madonna di Campiglio is under the 4,000-euro threshold, while Bormio and Courmayeur are positioned under the 3,000 euro mark.

Where costs are falling

Behind an average annual increase of 14%, there are actually very different cost variations, and even a couple of cases in which the expense to be paid is decreasing. Cortina stands out because it records a decrease in costs compared to a year ago: but only for the New Year’s skiing week (-4%), remaining the most expensive. In the Carnival week, the Pearl of the Dolomites is instead the location of the survey where costs make the biggest leap (+11%). The other location where a (small) saving can be noted for New Year’s Eve 2025 compared to 2024 is Madonna di Campiglio (-3%).

And where they rise

On the opposite front is Champoluc, the ski destination where the increase on New Year’s Eve reaches the highest peak of the survey: +43% in one year (from 2,235 to 3,190). At Carnival there is a role reversal with Cortina, because this time it is Champoluc that shows a decrease in costs compared to the same period in 2024. Alongside the negative record of Champoluc, for the week of New Year’s Eve, it is worth mentioning that of Vigo di Fassa which sees costs rise by 30%. Courmayeur is also above the average of 14% (+17%). Below average increases are found in Bormio (+9%) and Tarvisio (+8%).

You spend less at Carnival

Choosing a Carnival ski week instead of a New Year’s Eve ski week is an excellent strategy for saving. Despite being the peak season, it allows for a cost reduction of around 40%. The average outlay is 1,880 euros (instead of 3,125 euros for a ski week around New Year’s Day). Livigno is the location that allows you to cut costs the most. In fact, by more than half: from 4,233 euros for New Year’s Eve, it goes down to 2,026 euros for Carnival, a difference of 109%. The savings are lower where costs are already lower. This explains why Tarvisio, already a cheaper resort, is the location in the survey where the cost reduction at Carnival is the least significant, just 329 euros (from 1,724 euros, it goes down to 1,395).

Campiglio is the most expensive at Carnival

For the week of Carnival (from 1st to 8th March), Madonna di Campiglio (2,470 euros) displaces Cortina d’Ampezzo (2,305 euros) in the uncomfortable primacy of the most expensive resort. As for Livigno, albeit by a few euros, with 2,026 euros it enters the group of three resorts that break through the 2,000 euro ceiling, together with Campiglio and Cortina. The other six ski destinations remain below this threshold, particularly Tarvisio (1,395 euros) and Pila (1,591 euros), which stand out for being the most affordable in the survey, at Carnival as well as New Year’s Eve.

Compared to the last winter season, the 2025 Carnival ski week suffers more modest increases (+5%) than the New Year’s Eve one (+14%). For Carnival, even the distribution of increases between the different resorts shows less strident differences. But there are certainly disparities. In Cortina and Madonna di Campiglio, price growth between 2024 and 2025 is double-digit, while in Vigo di Fassa (+2%) and Bormio (+4%) it is all in all contained. It is also worth mentioning the case of Champoluc, the only place where there is a drop in spending (-2%), albeit slight (for New Year’s Eve instead it explodes: + 43%).

For me it was the best bar, more when Freddy was in charge (a rockabilly kind of guy with great music and hot chocolates!) Food was great too. Lovely terrace. For the 24/25 ski season it has been demolished! But I was told they’ll build another structure for the 25/26 ski season! Just off the top of Chamolé lift (by piste 2).
