My painting featuring GB Champion Telemarker Jasmin Taylor was given as a gift to her longtime sponsor Leggett Immobilier during the Telemark World Cup in Les Contamines-Montjoie. Jasmin got the bronze medal in this occasion, making her fifth career World Championships podium.

I did the painting based on a racing picture of her taken by photographer Josef Obexer in Carezza Dolomites resort.

  1. **Plan Ahead**. Practical Tips for Planning your Ski Trip.

– Book flights and accommodation several months in advance. Prices are usually lower and you can be sure of availability, especially in high season. You can check rates on Booking.com which usually is pretty good. They have also rental cards, flights, transfers and activities. Just go to Booking and check it out.

– Look for packages that include accommodation, ski passes and rental equipment. These are sometimes cheaper than booking everything separately. There are lots of great ski tour operators. It is best to use one in your country if you want to book air through them. If you book air on your own, you can use any bed bank to plan your travel. Just check that the tour operator is accredited through the local entity, such as ASTA, ABTA, etc. You want them to be bonded should anything happens that the company goes bust, and at least the government takes care of what you’ve paid.

The results of the epidemiological network for observing winter sports accidents constitute the most comprehensive database (more than 400,000 cases in the database to date, since 1992) on winter sports pathologies.

For the 2023-2024 season, the report shows 136,700 injuries. This total number allows the association to establish a risk incidence reported to the number of skier days provided by Domaines Skiables de France. This average is 2.6 injured people per 1,000 skier-days.

Vail Resorts Still in the News for the Wrong Reasons

Park City groomed slope. Photo: Vail Resorts. Vail Resorts Still in the News for the Wrong Reasons

I have already written about Vail Resorts having a rocky period in the news. The news is not calming down, and more things are coming to the fore. From a letter sent from a dissatisfied shareholder, Taylor Schmidt of Late Apex Partners asking for the replacement of CEO Kirsten Lynch, to the COO Angela Korch and also Chairman of the board Robert Katz, to more news on potential strike action and employees dissatisfaction.

The letter of Late Apex Partners.

This has been a scathing report on how Vail Resorts is doing business and is asking for a big change, focusing on guests experience and employees’ wellbeing and not so much on acquiring ski areas abroad, while there is still lots to do in the United States with what Vail Resorts got in stock.

The latest development of this is that Late Apex Partner’s Taylor Schmidt been in contact with the local newspaper Vail Daily stating that he is a bigger stockholder than what today the head management of Vail is, when put into doubt how big of a stakeholder he was.

Overtourism at Roccaraso after 10 thousand Neapolitan “skiers” descended on the ski resort

Roccaraso, photo by Tom Frances Palattao. Unsplash. Overtourism at Roccaraso after 10 thousand Neapolitan “skiers” descended on the ski resort.

There is a case when there are too many tourists in any area, especially in small locations that might not be prepared to receive them. That is the case of what happened at Roccaraso, an Italian ski resort in the Apenine mountains, that is very well loved by Romans and Napolitans.  This past Sunday more than 10 thousand Neapolitan “skiers” descended on Roccaraso, creating an instance for overtourism.

As per the Corriere della Sera, Francesco Di Donato, the mayor of Roccaraso said that he needs an army to be able to control the assault of 10,000 Neapolitans day skiers. There were around 220 buses stopping on the Route Statale 17, that is not under the jurisdiction of the mayor. The buses stopped everywhere causing chaos, and suddenly the small town was having too many visitors for the space available.
