$555 Million Budgeted at 12 Mountain Destinations Over the Next Five Years

Alterra Mountain Company reinforces its commitment to growth and investment in its family of 12 mountain destinations by announcing its initial capital improvements, with an investment plan totalling more than half a billion dollars over the next five years, spending $130 million for winter 2018/2019.

Alterra Mountain Company, created in 2017, is comprised of 12 mountain destinations spread throughout five states and three Canadian provinces: Steamboat and Winter Park Resort in Colorado; Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, Mammoth Mountain, June Mountain and Big Bear Mountain Resort in California; Stratton in Vermont; Snowshoe in West Virginia; Tremblant in Quebec, Blue Mountain in Ontario; Deer Valley Resort in Utah; and CMH Heli-Skiing & Summer Adventures in British Columbia.

Telluride joins the EPIC pass in what is another chapter of the saga of two giants to get the biggest market share in North America.

In what is another chapter of this saga of the two giants trying to get the biggest slice of the cake, Vail Resorts adds Telluride as one of the resorts you can ski if you purchase the Epic Pass.

As per Vail Resorts website, they have entered a “long-term alliance” with Telluride Ski Resort in Colorado, adding it to the Epic Pass starting in 2018-19. The Epic Pass now offers access and benefits to a total of 46 mountain resorts worldwide.

Warren Miller, the ski-movies-guru and pioneer, died at 93 at his Orcas Island home

Warren Miller was the pioneer of the ski films, a real ski movies guru.

I was very sad to hear that Warren A. Miller, the pioneer ski movies filmmaker has passed away yesterday. He was 93, but he did have a great life. He promoted the idea of ‘pure freedom’ that is associated with skiing. He was a self-taught filmmaker who started filming himself for an annual narrated ski movie shown in small theatres. Over the years, he continued narrating all his films, his voice is very warm, and recognisable. He makes fun out of skiing and is ok of making fun out of himself. His company, Warren Miller Entertainment, has produced more than 500 adventure sport films.

Tsunami warnings canceled after magnitude-7.9 earthquake off Alaska

(CNN)Forecasters canceled tsunami warnings for Alaska and the US and Canadian west coasts Tuesday after an earthquake in the Gulf of Alaska stoked fears of damaging waves.

The tsunami alerts were canceled “because additional information and analysis have better defined the threat,” said the National Tsunami Warning Center in Palmer, Alaska

Finally the new company of KSL and Henry Crown company has a new name: Alterra Mountain Company!

Finally the joint venture formed by KSL Capital Partners and Henry Crown and Company has been named as Alterra Mountain Company. Based in Denver, Alterra has now under its belt 12-mountain resorts across North America, many of which purchased last year. Until today, this new company was being called ‘NewCo’ and today their new name has come out to light.
