Following the closure at the end of January of the cable car Cime Caron, the replacement of the load carrier cables has started in May. This gigantic project will cost €6 million and will be finished in November, right on time for the start of the winter season 2019/2020.

Furthermore, two Gazex will be installed under the line of the cable car in order to secure even more the area and allow a faster opening to customers in the mornings.
The water reservoir Lac 2, used for snow making, will be expanded with a capacity going from 88 000m3 to 306 000m3.
Snow guns are added at the top of the blue piste Plateaux in order to improve customer satisfaction on this highly frequented area between the snowpark and the Family Park. In addition, it will facilitate the access to Funitel Grand Fond at the beginning of the season.
Col, the last fixed-grip chairlift of Val Thorens, will have its 25 years “Grande Inspection”. The top of the lift offers stunning views over Glacier de Chavière and Parc de la Vanoise.

Funitel Peclet, situated at the spine of the ski area, will undergo a major check-up, starting this summer with a three-year implementation timeframe.
The descent speed of Cairn and Caron gondolas will be increased. For our non-skiing customers, those two lifts link the summit of Cime Caron from the resort centre.
Red, White and Basin: Ski the 4th of July at Arapahoe Basin!
Arapahoe Basin (A-Basin) will be open for skiing and snowboarding on Thursday, July 4, 2019. July 4 will be the official closing day for A-Basin’s 2018-19 winter season, capping off the longest ski season in Colorado that began October 19, 2018. The last time A-Basin was open on July 4 was 2011. Its longest season was in 1995 when the ski area stayed open until August 10.

A-Basin is able to stay open in large part thanks to higher-than-average snowfall totals and lower-than-average temperatures in the months of March and May, including nearly seven feet of snow falling during March. Even so, it was not a record snowfall year for the ski area. At the start of June, A-Basin was at 106 percent of average snowfall (about 375 inches). Other contributing factors to A-Basin’s late season are its northern-facing frontside slopes and high elevation (10,780’ base; 12,500’ at the top of the highest lifts; 13,050’ peak).
An ‘ephemeral lake’ appeared on the Mont Blanc massif due to warm record temperatures. The phenomenon, witnessed by a guide of the Società Guide Alpine Courmayeur has been reported by the “Montagna Sicura” foundation about the repercussions of the hot temperatures of these days. The training is near the Rochefort group.
From AostaSera.it, Montagna Sicura and Guides du Mont Blanc
The canicular temperatures of these days have shattered the primates of heat in the valley floor, but their effects in altitude still worry those who deal with climate. On the Mont Blanc, due to the effect of a zero thermal that reached a height of four thousand meters, in addition to having created the sporadic conditions for which at least 150 paragliders managed to land on the summit the other day, a lake was formed in recent hours due to of the rapid melting of snow .
Technically speaking, we are seeing an “ephemeral lake”. The “Montagna Sicura” foundation reports this on its Facebook profile , sharing a photograph of the guide of Courmayeur Gianluca Marra (author of a video), which reproduces the unusual phenomenon, testimony to the “many repercussions on the high mountains” of the “Record temperatures these days” .
In the post, the foundation remembers that it is “the same place” (in the Rochefort group, whose most significant peak is the Dente del Gigante) ” in which it had already been observed in 2016 , when our technicians carried out an inspection of land that had not highlighted any problems “. An effect certainly suggestive from the point of view of landscape, but which can only give to reflect on the climatic evolution.

From Swissinfo.ch
A Swiss pilot who landed a light aircraft on Mont Blanc in France faces a maximum fine of €38 (CHF42, $43) in France thanks to a legal loophole. However, Swiss aviation authorities could crack down harder, including stripping him of his licence.

The Piper aircraft touched down on Tuesday at an altitude of 4,450 metres (14,600ft), apparently at an unauthorised landing spot on Europe’s highest mountain, according to the Swiss news agency Keystone-SDA. French police intercepted two mountaineers who had flown in to climb the summit.
The Swiss Federal Office of Civil Aviation (FOCA) said it had yet to be officially informed about the incident and did not know the full facts. But a FOCA spokesperson said it could take action if the pilot is found guilty of offences in France.

April 2020 for the possible implementation of the GPS system at the Andorra-La Seu airport
The EFA claims that the failure of the GPS makes an airport essential in the country
The principality of Andorra shares two similar items with San Marino. Both have two active heads of state and both are reliant on airports outside their borders.

Andorra’s location in the middle of the Pyrenees mountain range, is a magnet for skiers and mountain lovers alike. The key is to bring in those visitors.
When the idea of building an altiport – an aerodrome in mountainous terrain was discarded due to its difficulty, the alternative that was obvious for all was to turn to La Seu d’Urgell Airport, just across the border in Spain, into Andorra’s air gateway.
The airport is on a flat-top hill and has seen little action since regular flights to Barcelona were abandoned in the early 1980s. But this can change soon with a renovation program.
Local topography and runway length do not allow aircrafts bigger than the 27-meter ATR turboprop. Still this could be a good start for people busing into the resort.
Two separate airline start-ups – Andorra Airlines and Air Andorra have interest in this airport, but have not started to operate yet.
The most famous person to have landed in Andorra-La Seu d’Urgell Airport is Elton John, who landed here in 2015 on a way to a concert in Andorra.

Mora claims to “put on the table” negotiations with the EU to improve the rest of the infrastructure
The Andorran Family Business (EFA) demands that the new Government mark as a priority the construction of an airport in national territory. The request was made by the president of the entity, Francesc Mora, with reference to the latest announcement by Spanish Minister of Development, José Luis Ábalos, who has set at least for April 2020 umpteenth date for the possible implementation of the GPS system at the Andorra-La Seu airport. «In November, they told us that we would have GPS in May. Then he was postponed for the fall and now we have already spent the next year, “Mora recalled, then said that” Andorra as a country cannot be waiting for an agenda that does not control “but has to take “a sovereign decision”.
In this way, the EFA reiterated its support for the Chamber of Commerce and its president, Miquel Armengol, a defender of the need for an Andorran airport, who announced that, unlike of the urgency airport, the GPS navigation system would not present so many complications in Andorra, since “the approach system is not homologable in the Headquarters has nothing to do with what it is not possible to implement here.”
