How ski grooming patterns can affect visibility in the snow.

Ski Grooming Patterns

It is true when skiing down on a blue bird day on a groomed slope is really enjoyable. Now add clouds and fog, and if you don’t have trees at either side of the slope – you don’t see much! Still with trees by the side, visibility is not at its best.

This is what made QBI researcher Dr Will Harrison fall on a ski slope in Canada, and later he transformed this fall into a research project.

Dr Harrison says that visibility on groomed runs is severely reduced on shady spots of a run or on overcast days. He suggests that by grooming differently, visibility could be greatly improved.

Grooming is shown to have reduced ski accidents

Dr Harrison said, “for the safety of skiers and snowboarders, snow at ski resorts is compacted and smoothed in a process called “grooming”, which has been shown to reduce accidents,”

“Grooming results in a pattern of parallel lines in the snow, and we know a lot about how the brain processes these patterns. Grooming has been shown to reduce accidents, but I was interested to test if the particular groom pattern used at my ski resort made it more difficult to see the snow when it is not in full sunlight.

SKI TEST – SKI REVIEW #2 – Nordica Enforcer 100 SKI REVIEWS -FAT OR NOT FAT – WHAT TO BUY?

With all these thoughts we are going to review the top #2 ski of our list for Men All-Mountain-Wide Skis:

#2: NORDICA ENFORCER 100

Before starting with this review, I’m going to talk about the ski factories.

Today, the ski factories must work together with ski brands because factories are manufacturing several brands under the same roof.

Back on the day, mostly in Europe, each brand had its own factory to develop its own skis.

Today things are different, and this is not a secret. One factory can manufacture several skis for different brands. This is not a problem nor a bad thing. In this case, the Nordica Enforcer 100 shares the same factory with the top #1 ski of our review, the Blizzard Bonafide 98.

Of the 3 million that will be invested this summer, 1.6 are contributed by the EMAP company and 1.4 are contributed by Comú de La Massana.

The Andorran domain has been ending the ski season with profit for seven years, so it can carry out an investment plan, in conjunction with the contribution made by the parish of La Massana, the sole owner of the company.

Chacaltaya Ski Resort is not Operating due to the Retreat of a 18,000-year-old glacier.

Chacaltaya, the world’s highest ski resort in Bolivia, has been deserted after its 18,000-year-old glacier has melted away.

The Chacaltaya Ski Resort was once the only ski resort in Bolivia, where people of the neighbouring La Paz used to go skiing. The resort was also the home of the highest restaurant in the world and the resort itself was also the highest ski resort in the world. As the glacier melted, the resort was abandoned.

The resort opened in the late 1930s and the season used to last between seven or eight months per year. Visitors came to ski and sledge down the Chacaltaya Glacier until the cold and the altitude made them return to lower elevations.

At 17,519 feet (5,340 m) above sea level, Chacaltaya Ski Resort was not for the heart fainted! The altitude is higher than the North Base Camp of Mount Everest. The restaurant is still recognised as the highest mountain in the world by the Guinness Records.

Picture Ski Clothing for Kids – Grows with them!

You know how much it costs skiing and all you need to purchase to get your family kitted to going skiing. Now, you can get some cheap brands that are good enough, or maybe you want to splash out on a good brand. But then your kids grow up too quickly and you have made an investment that is not recovered– unless you have younger siblings to pass the clothes to and take advantage of it!

And it is great if you can find some decent brand for your kids, as you want your kid to be warm on the pistes. If you have very cold temperatures and your kid is wet and cold, he can ruin all the family’s day out. Skiing is very costly as to let this happen!

I was the other day visiting the dry slope at Chatham Snowsports Center and I pop into the  ski shop, and these jackets from Picture caught my eye.

The Flagstaff resort development plans include new lifts, runs and amenities such as mountain biking and a mountain coaster.

Arizona Snowbowl has recently announced that it will invest $60 Million in upgrades including new lifts, night skiing and boarding, and new facilities.

Other activities they are envisioning to include which they are not currently offering are mountain biking, a mountain coaster, alpine slide, zip line tours, a climbing wall and outdoor concerts, broadening their offer for a four-seasons resort.

General Manager J.R. Murray said: “Obviously there is a growing demand for outdoor recreation, and that is why ski areas are adding year-round activities to utilize the infrastructure on a year-round basis and respond to the demand. And also, the year-round activities diversify the business, so we are not so heavily reliant on winter.”

The improvements will be built over a period of time. If the plans get approval from the U.S. Forest Service, then the work will begin no sooner than 2021 and it will take 10 to 15 years to be completed, Murray said.
